About David Day and his ICM Photography

David Day began his work as a fine arts photographer in Fairfield, CT in 1998. During that period, he was focused on traditional black and white photography of historic landmarks.
After moving to Hendersonville, North Carolina in 2014, David began focusing on the development of a new form of abstract photography by adapting and refining intentional camera movement techniques to studio subjects such as wire, tissue paper, plastic tape, parchment paper, newsprint, twigs, leaves, and a variety of other throw-away items.
In February, 2023 after several competition wins for his work, he became an ‘Artist In Residence’ at the Northern Light Gallery, Albuquerque, NM. In December, 2023 he was recognized as ‘Artist of the Year’ at the same gallery. Throughout 2023 and 2024, his work has been exhibited in many cities including Vancouver, Toronto, Albuquerque, Minneapolis, and New York City. In August, 2024, David’s ‘Perils Along The Road Less Traveled’ captured first-place at the annual Carolina’s Photography competition in Charlotte, NC.
On the internet, David’s work can be found on his website, https://ddayicmart.com, on Facebook at D’Day Photographic Art, and on Instagram @ddayicm. Locally, David’s work can be viewed at the ArtMob Studios (Hendersonville), and Tryon Painters and Sculptors (Tryon).

Artist Statement:
Dreams often shift abruptly from one interactive experience to another in unrelated yet seemingly connected ways. My work attempts to capture these experiences and provide opportunities for the viewer to make connections that would not otherwise be considered outside of lucid dream events.

Title: ICM in the Studio – a different approach to creating abstract art with camera movement.

Description: This presentation covers the methods used to adapt intentional camera movement to a studio environment using common materials that can be recycled. Using processes developed from several years of experimentation, David will explain how scene creation, lighting, camera equipment selection, and movement techniques are integrated to produce captivating abstract art. Examples of his work will be provided throughout the presentation to give the audience an appreciation for the abstract image possibilities with intentional camera movement in a controlled studio setting..
