SUMMARY:Gregory Holden Photographer/Judge This will be a Zoom presentation.
   The club will be open.
DESCRIPTION:\nGreg Holden is a photographer from Longmont\, Colorado. His p
hotography explores interesting shapes\, textures and juxtapositions in na
ture and the little scenes often overlooked by others fuel his photographi
c creativity. Although he won’t pass by a chance to photograph a beautif
ul landscape or a tranquil sunset\, he’d rather be exploring abandoned p
laces and capturing the details of the layers of paint and rust on a disca
rded automobile. Photography is his way of sharing with others how sees th
e world and provides an artistic escape from his day job as an aerospace e
ngineer.\nWhile much of his photography focuses on abstracts and details\,
Greg finds inspiration from photographers within a wide range of subjects
. Greg has a collection of over 180 books of photography\, including by ma
ny lesser-known photographers\, obtained from years of searching used book
stores. Some of his favorites are the close-up beach studies by Minor Whit
e\, the early portraiture of Steichen and Stieglitz\, and street scenes by
Andre Kertesz.  He enjoys teaching others and sharing his passion for ph
otography and regularly speaks and judges for camera clubs across the coun
try. You can see his work on his\n\nwebsite: www.imagesunderfoot.com\n&nbs
p\;\nElements of Design in Black &amp\; White Photography\nIn the absence
of color\, black &amp\; white photographs rely on use of elements of desig
n to form a pleasing composition and to establish the photographer’s poi
nt of view.  While many monochrome images are defined by the quality and
intensity of light\, Greg will discuss how line\, form\, pattern\, texture
\, depth\, and visual weight give additional structure and strength to bla
ck &amp\; white photographs.\nLines can be used to frame an image\, provid
e direction to focus the viewer’s attention or link elements of the imag
e together.  When groups of lines join to create a pattern\, they can uni
fy an image.  Including shape and form makes your flat image look three-d
imensional and real.  Emphasizing light and texture can provide added dep
th to the image\, allow the viewer to ‘feel’ the photograph and impart
an emotional impact for a stronger connection to the viewer.\nDuring this
presentation\, Greg will show you how adjusting your compositions to maxi
mize the impact of these elements will improve your photographs and enable
you to express your vision more deliberately.\n\n\n
