SUMMARY:Field Trip - Solar Eclipse 2024
DESCRIPTION:Solar Eclipse 2024 in Cleveland Area." A solar eclipse is a tra
nscending experience not to be missed\, according to David Baron\, who rec
ently gave a lecture on the subject titled "Scientific America: The Eclips
e that Enlightened a Nation." He also provided some practical tips on how
and where to watch the eclipse: Many photographers\, who are eclipse-chase
rs\, are planning to go south to Texas and Alabama. For those of us hoping
to see it here in our backyards (literally)\, we need to be aware of a fe
w things:\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n1.Clear skies are essential. If there's an overcas
t day\, there will be no photographs\, but we can still experience the ecl
ipse as spectators.\n\n2.Location: Open fields and lakeshores are the best
\, but city streets are okay if there aren't many tall buildings\, conside
ring that the sun will be high in the sky at this time of day.\n\n3.If you
plan to take pictures of a partial eclipse\, special filters called sun f
ilters for your camera and special glasses for your eyes are absolutely ne
cessary. Here is a link to a short YouTube video on how to photograph a so
lar eclipse: click here\n\n4.According to a Google search\, the total sola
r eclipse in Cleveland\, Ohio on April 8\, 2024\, will begin at 1:59 PM ED
T and end at 4:28 PM EDT. Totality will begin at 3:13 PM\, last about 3 mi
nutes and 40–50 seconds\, and end at 3:17 PM. The moon will appear to ha
ve passed the sun\, finishing the eclipse\, at 4:29 PM.Itinerary: That bei
ng said\, there are two good locations (among others) for a CPS meetup: Ed
gewater Park (with plenty of parking and facilities on-site\, easily reach
able by many\, though crowds may be a factor) and Headlands Beach (with 35
arcs of beach and flat lands\, less parking space\, and potentially fewer
crowds).\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nTime of Arrival: Suggested time of arrival to eith
er location would be around 12:30pm.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nWho: Open to everyone\n
\n&nbsp\;\n\nField Trip Sponsor: Thank you\, Natalie Souza for coordinatin
 g!\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAdditional Questions: Email: Field Trips\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nPL
EASE NOTE: As with all field trips\, CPS cannot be held responsible for an
 y accidents or injuries - participate at your own risk.\n\n&nbsp\;
